Validation

Definition

Validation is the process of determining the degree to which a model is an accurate representation of the real-world system (the simuland) it is representing. (“Was the right model made?”)

Why It Matters

Validation ensures that the model is realistic and can be trusted to predict real-world outcomes, which is critical for decision-making in engineering, aviation, and medicine.

Core Concepts

  • Empirical Validation: Comparing simulation output with actual experimental or historical data from the real system.
  • Tolerable Error: Establishing threshold ranges within which the model output is considered “close enough” to reality for its intended purpose.
