Ostrich Parasitic Syndrome (OPS)

Definition

Ostrich Parasitic Syndrome (OPS) is a term coined by Gad Saad to describe various forms of disordered thinking where an individual rejects fundamental truths and self-evident realities (comparable to the pull of gravity) in order to protect a preferred ideological dogma. It is the human equivalent of a brain parasite that causes a host to ignore looming predators.

Why It Matters

OPS is the “Autoimmune Disease” of civilization. It describes what happens when a society’s best minds stop looking at reality and start defending “Dogma” to gain social status. When a culture stops being able to agree on self-evident truths (like biological sex or the necessity of energy), it loses the ability to solve problems. Recognizing OPS is the first step in “Cultural Restoration”—forcing us to prioritize Truth over Tribalism before our “Reality-Gaps” lead to a total systemic collapse.

Core Concepts

  • Rejection of Reality: Afflicted individuals doggedly and proudly depart from common sense and scientific facts if those facts contradict their pet ideology.
  • Ideological Tribalism: The commitment is always to the defense of the tribe’s dogma, regardless of the evidence (e.g., denying biologically-based sex differences).
  • Infection Source: Flourishes within academic and “progressive” ecosystems where social signals of virtue outweigh the pursuit of truth.
  • Neuroparasitological Analogy: Mirrors biological parasites like toxoplasma gondii (which removes fear of cats in mice) by removing the “fear” of being wrong or irrational in the service of the pathogen.
  • The “Grinning Idiot” Effect: Proudly espousing absurdities (e.g., “all sex differences are social constructs”) as a signal of progressive purity.
