Known Physics Confidence

Definition

Known physics confidence is the claim that within the domain of everyday conditions, modern physics is extraordinarily well tested and tightly constrained. Unknown physics may exist, but it is unlikely to affect ordinary human-scale phenomena in hidden ways.

Why It Matters

Scientific humility doesn’t mean ignoring what we’ve already proven. Known physics confidence provides the “sanity check” needed to distinguish between a groundbreaking discovery and a “perpetual motion” fantasy, keeping our efforts focused on the reality-constrained possible.

Core Concepts

  • Confidence is domain-specific, not absolute.
  • The success of existing theories constrains possible new forces and particles.
  • Extraordinary claims about everyday effects require compatibility with known physics.
  • Scientific humility does not mean pretending ignorance where evidence is overwhelming.
