Definition

An Employee Ownership Model is a business structure where the company is owned and controlled, in whole or in significant part, by the people who work for it. This aligns the interests of labor and capital, distributing profits and decision-making power among the workforce.

Why It Matters

This model transforms the “adversarial” relationship between management and labor into a shared mission where everyone has “skin in the game.” By aligning the interests of capital and workers, employee-owned firms achieve higher retention and long-term stability that distant, short-term investors can never replicate.
